3/25/2023 0 Comments Panlab ir actimeter![]() The Open Field Test (OFT) was first described by Hall and Ballachey in 1932 and is still one of the most commonly used assays for monitoring exploratory behavior and locomotor activity in laboratory animals. Measurement of position and locomotion are central to the study of animal behavior, such as novelty exploration, anxiety, spatial orientation and learning/memory. This system can be easily implemented in any laboratory as an in vivo locomotion assay to assess the neuromuscular abnormality of genetically modified animals and the impact of therapeutic interventions. The accumulative moving distance, velocity and thigmotaxis (percentage of time spending in the outer peripheral of the arena, which is commonly used as an index of anxiety) within a test period can be readily obtained. The system has been tested for analyzing two or more mice simultaneously placed in individual chambers. Animal behavior is recorded by the webcam and the video is then analyzed for mouse position on each frame by a customized MATLAB code. The system is composed of a webcam, an open field, and a computer with MATLAB installed. Here we describe a MATLAB program for video tracking of mice and locomotion analysis. Our objective is to develop a program for video tracking of mice and locomotion analysis. Optionally, the ActiTrack software option may be used to analyse animal trajectories (distance, speed, permanence time in selected zones) and then provide additional complementary data to those obtained using the control units.The ability to accurately and efficiently quantify mouse locomotor activity is essential for evaluating therapeutic efficacy and phenotyping genetically modified mice, in particular for the research of neuromuscular diseases. ![]() The new SEDACOM 2.0 version provides an easy and convenient way to visualize and export the data on a computer for further analysis. The frames can be controlled by the independent control units LE8825 or directly through the optional SEDACOM computer software. It can also be set to ignore the beams that are obstructed by objects (e.g. The infrared photocell system can be set with up to 15 levels of sensitivity in order to adapt the frames to the typology of the animal (rats, mice). The system is completely modular: each frame may be used for evaluation of general activity (one or several animals), locomotor and stereotyped movements or rearings or exploration (nose-spoke detection in the hole-board option). Each frame counts with 16 x 16 infrared beams for optimal subject detection. The system is basically composed by a 2 dimensional (X and Y axes) square frame, a frame support and a control unit. ![]() A reliable system for easy and rapid drug screening and phenotype characterisation in both day and night lighting conditions.
